Letters to Open When This is all Over
2020 has been a strange year, wanting to create something to help people cope during the first lockdown of the pandemic, Nikky, Claire and Emma created "Post Quarantine". A way of capturing how people are feeling, through the simple means of writing and posting a letter. The concept has been a great success, and as we enter the second lockdown it may be just the thing to get us through the colder and darker months.
Post Quarantine invites you to write to your future self, getting everything down on paper and focus on the brighter times ahead. It gives you something to do, and something to look forward to. The plan is to reunite writers with their letters at a big Post Quarantine exhibition party - when we are allowed.
Your letter can be a long reflective piece about how you’re feeling now or a simple pledge on the back of a postcard listing all the things you want to do when you’re free from social distancing. If writing is not your thing, that's okay too. It doesn't have to be a long letter — in fact you can interpret it however you like; Poems, illustrations, paintings, print and more. Basically, it’s whatever today’s ‘you’ believes the future you will need to read. And more importantly, whatever today’s ‘you’ needs to write.
Take the time to pick out or make your perfect writing paper or postcard. Then grab a pen and go for it.
When you’re done, send it to:
Post Quarantine, Unit 34786, PO Box 6945, London W1A 6US.
Your letters will be safe with the team until you are able to be reunited at a big Post Quarantine exhibition party (somewhere in East London probably). So yeah, make sure you’re okay for other people to read your mail.
Head over to their Instagram where you can see the fantastic letters that have been shared so far. Proof that although we may all be far apart and dealing with different things, we are all in this together. So pick up a pen and paper and write something down which future you will thank you for.
